CROCKETT – During a meeting of the Crockett Independent School District Board of Trustees held on Monday, May 22, the recent accomplishments of CISD students were recognized and celebrated.

After the meeting was opened, CISD Superintendent Terry Myers addressed the filled-to-capacity boardroom.

“We are proud of your accomplishments and the things you have done which go above and beyond what we expected of you. We have high expectations and you have exceeded them. The teachers and parents have allowed us to be with their children more than just what is required and have helped them exceed our expectations. Thank you,” he said.

“Tonight, we get to recognize students in every facet of our prog ram. Everything we do in Crockett is first class is what I’m trying to tell you,” Myers said. “Never let our school district be cited as second to anybody. I have told people this before – Crockett and Crockett ISD is a waxing moon. We are not a waning moon. We are on the rise and that is because of our students, our parents and our great teachers.”

The first group of students to receive recognition were those who participated in the Texas Holocaust and Genocide Commission’s Student Video Contest.

Interventionist Teresa Monroe explained the contest occurred during Texas Holocaust and Genocide Commission’s Awareness month and said the junior high students could either write an essay on bullying or do a video on “Standing up for Others.”

Monroe indicated the CJHS students chose to do a video and won the bronze prize in the statewide contest.

The next group to receive recognition were student authors from the reading grant publications. The student authors published their own books with assistance from the library.

Following the student authors were members of the Gifted and Talented Program who provided the audience with presentations on petroleum engineering and laser construction.

Once the GT students concluded, the Class 3A State Championship Track and Field team from CHS was welcomed to the front of the room.

The National Honor Society inductees were also recognized by the board.

Once the student recognitions were complete, the board moved into the actionable item part of the agenda.

The first matter of business was the swearing in of board members. Trustees Dr. John McCall and Mo Amjad were up for election in May but did not draw an opponent. However, because their terms were set to expire, the two trustees were required to swear in once again.

After the swearing in, the next order of business was to reorganize the board. A motion was made, seconded and unanimously approved to keep the slate of officers as is.

Lela Wheeler will return as board president, Trey Young will stay as vice-president and Karen Johnson will continue as the board’s secretary.

Once all other agenda items had been addressed, the board retired into executive session. When they returned from behind closed doors, Myers recommended the following contract personnel for employment during the 2017-2018 school year: Atlana Richards; Cash Thompson; Eva Broxson; and David Brockhausen.

The resignations of the following personnel were also accepted by the board: Tiva Cole; Jo Ann Gibson: Tracy Henderson; James O’Neal; Lori O’Neal; Francine Reece; and Kaysi Vaughn.

In other matters brought before the board:

  • Consent agenda items were approved.
  • A delinquent tax roll presentation was given to the trustees by attorney John Manuel.
  • Superintendent Wendy Tullos provided the board with a report on the Student Health Advisory Council.
  • Counselor Margaret Tuggle provided an update on the CISD counseling department.
  • The Bank depository bid for 2017-2019 was awarded to Prosperity Bank.
