THE WEEKENDER by Clyde Black: Crockett Lions Club PRCA Rodeo

The time is now!  Put on your boots, tight jeans, hats and get to the Crockett Lions Club Rodeo on May 11, 12 and 13.  It doesn’t get much better than this.

Houston County is Texas’s oldest county and it’s hosting our oldest sport.  This is great original historic entertainment.  It’s the ultimate in family entertainment complete with unmeasurable excitement and drama.  You can go to a ball game and maybe someone will get a run.  Go to a football game and maybe someone will score.  Not to mention that those are team sports and if you go to a pro event it will cost you a hundred bucks to get close to the action.

Crockett’s rodeo is a pro event!  These cowboys and cowgirls pay their entry fee and if they don’t win or place they don’t get paid.  They come from all over the world.  Yes, world.  The Lions Club pays a good purse to attract the best and those that are contending for a world championship! This year they will be here in the greatest numbers ever!  More bareback bronc riders than ever.  More saddle bronc riders than ever and yes more bull riders than ever! Yes, guys, more lady barrel racers than ever before!  (I wonder if that pretty little gal from Australia will be back?)  Oh, where was I?  For less than a good steak you can get into the rodeo and still have a concession stand available.  You just can’t beat a hot dog with the aroma of cows and horses filling your senses.  Seriously, get the kids together for great family entertainment.

The Lions Club uses proceeds from this event to provide scholarships to local kids and eye care for needy referred to the club.  Thousands of dollars worth of tickets have already been given to school kids and you will see the gold vested Lions members at the rodeo to help you have a good time.

Have fun and come to the rodeo! You will not be bored because you are right on top of the action and fun.  Feel good about your county and patriotic values.

Go rodeo!  Thanks, Lord, for all of our blessings.
