Thomas James “Tommy” Tunstall Jr.

Thomas James “Tommy” Tunstall, Jr., 70, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2017 at his home in Huntsville.

He was born July 2, 1946, in Crockett, to Thomas James “Spud” Tunstall, Sr. and Kathryn Morrow Tunstall. Tommy graduated from Crockett High School in 1964 where he was a three year varsity letterman in football; played baseball for two years; was on the track team for four years; on staff of the Bulldog Bark; member of FFA; voted Most Handsome his Sophomore year; served on the student council his Junior year; and was Vice-President of his Senior class.  After graduation, he attended Tyler Junior College and went on to graduate from Sam Houston State University.  That’s when Tommy began his career in the clothing business.  He was men’s clothing manager at Britt’s Department Store in Bryan and Sakowitz in Houston for three years.

After leaving Sakowitz, Tommy began his lengthy career on the road as a salesman for Merit Suits and Jockey.  In the early ‘80s, Tommy opened Tunstall’s Men Shop and Tunstall’s Ladies Clothing in Crockett.  After closing both stores, he began selling cars in Dallas and later moved to Team Dodge in Huntsville, where Tommy worked until his health forced him to retire.

He was very proud of the loyalty all of his Crockett friends showed by buying from him.

Tommy is survived by his son, Thomas James Tunstall, III of Austin; brother, Sonny Tunstall and wife, Lisa of Grapeland; nieces, Polly Ann Hixson and husband, Garth of Athens, GA, Katy Tunstall of Beaumont, Lauren Thorne and husband, Tim of Southlake; great-nieces, Emma Hixson, Rosabelle Jefferson, Elly Thorne; great-nephews, Charles Hixson, Brendon Thorne, Griffin Thorne; numerous other loving relatives and friends.

Tommy is preceded in death by his parent, Thomas James “Spud” and Kathryn Tunstall.

Funeral services for Thomas James “Tommy” Tunstall, Jr. will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 9, 2017 in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel.  Interment to follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.  The family will receive visitors 10:00 a.m. Monday prior to services.  Online condolences may be made at www.callawayallee.com
