CROCKETT- The official ribbon cutting and unveiling of the new Crockett Independent School District Cosmetology School was held Tuesday, May 21.

The brand new Cosmetology School – which is situated on the end of the administration building – was buzzing with excited kids and parents hoping for the opportunity to take one of the highly coveted spots in the new venture for Crockett ISD.

CISD Superintendent John Emerich was on hand along with several CISD Board of Trustee members, including Gerald Colter, Zenita Hamilton, Catina Brice and Ansel Bradshaw.

“I’m proud to have been able to complete this project along with the improvements that were made at the Ag building without going to a bond. All funds were invested directly from the general fund,” Emerich said.

Emerich also added that the space utilized was an old science lab that was no longer in use. This was even more of a plus for the district.

From the looks of the excitement on kids’ faces, this looks to be a great investment for the district.

Natalie Commander, who is teaching the class, stated she is really excited to get the kids in the classroom and go to work. She said what is most satisfying is her students will graduate and be able to go straight into the workforce and start making money.

The state-of-the-art facility is something to see. There are many stations for stylists along with two manicure and pedicure stations each  Also included are hair dryers and wash stations.

According to Emerich, there are 24 spots available for incoming juniors. The following year another 24-member junior class will be added as the seniors move towards their certificates and be allowed to cut hair for the public.

The Messenger would like to congratulate CISD for the new cosmetology wing and wish the incoming students good luck next year.
