The Moosehead Is For Sale? That’s News To Them, Too

By Greg Ritchie

CROCKETT – The Moosehead Cafe in historic downtown Crockett serves homemade food, with iconic decor and attracts both locals and tourists, looking for a good meal, while hosting many local clubs and events in its large interior.  Owned for more than 20 years by Buddy and Joni Clonts, The Messenger was recently contacted with information that the two had decided to sell the restaurant, big news to us and as it turned out, news to the Clonts’, too.

Having learned over the years to confirm any and all gossip which comes our way – and one could say there is sometimes a fair amount of gossip swimming around Houston County, The Messenger contacted Joni Clonts, who lost no time in denying the rumors.

Herself unsure how they began, Clonts confirmed anyone stating they have bought, or are buying the business are just wrong. She said she became aware of the rumor only recently, from a number of friends and even local businesses, Clonts put out a statement online to try and clarify the situation and put an end to any speculation.

Rumors are circulating about The Moosehead Cafe having been sold, but this is not true,” Clonts said. “I will admit we do get tired at times, but at the end of the day, we hope The Moosehead Cafe is an asset to our community. We have been truly blessed since we opened on Sept 14, 2001. Crockett and Houston County have been great to us. This is the reason we give back to our community  so much as possible. We appreciate each and every customer who walks through our doors. No business is a success without hard work. We will continue to serve our customers and community – the best is yet to come. We will be here until God plans change for Buddy and myself.”

It is still unknown how the rumors began or why or by whom, but as Winston Churchill once said, “A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.”
