SARATOGA – The Grapeland Sandies made a two hour trek to Saratoga on Friday, Nov. 1 and returned home with their second consecutive, undefeated District 12-2A DII championship following their 35-0 demolition of the West Hardin Oilers.

The game was never in doubt as the Sandies jumped out to a 22-0 halftime lead and then coasted to the 35-0 win.

Grapeland stayed on the ground most of the game as Cadarian Wiley and Keizion Ashford did most of the damage. Wiley carried the ball 9 times for 171 yards highlighted by a 94-yard camper for a touchdown.

Ashford picked up 93 yards on five carries and found the end zone three times against the West Hardin defense.

Quarterback BJ Lamb added the other TD for the Grapeland offense.

The win gave the Sandies an undefeated record in district play for the second consecutive year and an 8-2 overall record. The district victories came over: Evadale, 49-12; Burkeville, 45-22; Colmesneil, 38-24; Lovelady, 53-16; and now West Hardin 35-0.

The Sandies will have the week off this next week as they prepare for their upcoming playoff game against the Frost Polar Bears.

The Polar Bears will most likely finish the regular season with a 4-6 record overall and 2-3 district mark, following their game against the defending state champion Mart Panthers.
