William (Bill) O. Whatley III

William (Bill) “Sonny” O. Whatley III of Grapeland, TX, formerly of Jacksonville, TX, passed away December 13, 2018 surrounded by family and friends.

Bill was born in Jacksonville on July 28, 1945 to W.O. and Carleen Whatley. He graduated from Jacksonville High School, where he played football in the Tomato Bowl as a Jacksonville Indian. Bill served four years in the US Air Force. In 1981, he married Sharon (Sherry) Kay Stepp, in Leander, TX. Bill was a Master Mason and a member of the Jacksonville #108 Lodge and Grapeland #473 Lodge. He was an active member of Sunset Christian Church in Grapeland.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, W.O. Whatley Jr., his stepmother Elsie Whatley, and his mother Carleen Whatley.

He is survived by his wife Sherry, of Grapeland, TX, and two daughters, Shona Domgard and husband Louis of Norman, OK., and Suzanne Hood and husband Chris of Austin, TX, three grandchildren, Colt Herring of San Antonio, TX, Griffin Domgard of Norman, OK and Laurel Herring of Austin, TX, his sister, Dorothy Little of Jacksonville, TX and step-brother Weldon Sheets and his wife Sandra of Celeste, TX.

A memorial service in honor of Bill “Sonny” will be held on January 19, 2019 at 2 p.m. in the Sunset Christian Church, Hwy. 227 East & FM 1860, Grapeland, TX.
