CROCKETT – The Crockett Lady Bulldogs welcomed the Lovelady Lady Lions to the Andrew J. Hopkins Activity Center on Tuesday, Nov. 27 for what should have been a measuring stick on the young season.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t. The Lady Bulldogs still have some work to do as they try and make up for the loss of Dea’Junique James to graduation. The Lady Lions, on the other hand, are now 6-0 on the season and ranked #9 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll released Nov. 26.

The Lady Lions put on a defensive showcase in the first eight minutes of play as they held Crockett to only two points in the quarter on a basket from Tynaisha McKnight.

Meanwhile, Lovelady opened up a 19 point lead over the Lady Bulldogs as they led 21-2 after the first quarter. Skye Watts paced the Lady Lions with seven points while Baylee Granberry had six. Jala Rollo and Sarah Thompson both had two while Kaiden LeMaire closed out the Lovelady first period scoring with two.

The second quarter was much better, offensively, for Crockett. Katelin Holmes dropped in seven while T. McKnight and Alinjah McKnight both had two.

Lovelady continued to roll as they poured in 21 points to make the score 42-13 at the break. LeMaire caught fire as she went for 10 points in the second. Granberry and Rollo each had four while Watts chipped in three.

Down by 29 after the break, the Lady Bulldogs attempted to make a comeback but fell well short as the Lady Lions continued to expand their lead. While the first quarter belonged to Watts and the second quarter belonged LeMaire, the third quarter belonged to Jala Rollo with 13 points. She was joined in the third period scoring column by Granberry with four and Watts with two as Lovelady opened up a 61-26 lead after three.

The Crockett third quarter points came from Holmes with four points and Q. Henderson with three. A. McKnight and T. McKnight both added two.

The final quarter saw the Lady Lions gear it down somewhat as they cruised to the 81-33 win.

On the game, Crockett was led in scoring by: Katelin Holmes with 12; Q. Henderson with nine; Tynaisha McKnight with six; Alinjah McKnight with four; and Shabess Johnson with two.

Lovelady was paced by Jala Rollo’s game-high 20 points. Kaiden LeMaire had 18, Skye Watts had 17 and Baylee Granberry had 16. Rajanae Polhamus dropped in five, Sarah Thompson had three and Macie LaRue chipped in two to close out the Lady Lions point production.
