WEEKLY BIBLE COMMENTARY by Wes Woodard: Genesis 12

Genesis 12 – “The First Jew”

“Now the Lord said to Abram, ‘Go forth from your country, and from your relatives … to the land which I will show you.  And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great.  And so you shall be a blessing. And I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed! So Abram went forth as the Lord had spoken to him. Now Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. He took Sarai his wife and Lot his nephew and all their possessions and they set out for the land of Canaan and arrived there.”

I fly an Israeli flag in front of my house. One of my grandsons asked me why I fly this flag (as well as Old Glory, and others).  I told him that I fly the flag of Israel because I believe the promise God made to Abram. As I have said before, as long as we remain a friend to Israel, as a nation, the U.S.A. will be fine. God will bless us, and He will protect us. And, Christians should always remember the words of the Apostle Paul about Israel’s restoration one day in the future. “For I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed…. That a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in; and so all Israel will be saved. The Deliverer will come from Zion, He will remove ungodliness from Jacob.. I will take away their sins.” (Romans 11:25 & 26 NASV) This means Israel as a nation has a glorious future ahead when they will be the most prominent nation on the earth! Jesus of Nazareth will be her King and rule with a rod of iron from Jerusalem on David’s throne for 1,000 years. Christians will also reign with Jesus Christ.  Paul alludes to this in I Corinthians 4:8: “You… have already become rich (in Christ). You have become kings… I wish indeed you had become kings (during Christ’s 1000 year reign on the earth) so that we also might reign with you.”  ilThis will be a time of peace and prosperity for the earth. Amen.
