LOVELADY – There is something to be said for hard work, loyalty, dedication and a drive to succeed in the work force. While it doesn’t always happen, those employees who dedicate themselves to a company or entity often earn rewards beyond their wildest dreams.

It also has been said the cream always rises to the top and Lovelady’s Norma Lane is a shining example of this.

In a press release received from Lovelady State Bank (LSB), it was announced Lane had been named to serve as president of the financial institution. She follows Michael R. Broxson as president.

With more than 32 years of experience in the banking industry, Lane’s most recent position with LSB was as the executive vice president.

When contacted on Thursday afternoon, Lane said the promotion “… came as a little bit of a shock. I wasn’t expecting it so soon, that’s for sure.”

“I think anything is possible. Basically, I worked my way up from the very bottom,” she explained.

According to the LSB press release, “Lane has served the bank since 1984 as a full-time employee, but actually began her banking career at age 16, working summers and after school. In the beginning, she spent many hours shredding paper, rolling quarters and filing checks.”

She said her belief is that anyone with drive, ambition and a desire for success can do so if they apply themselves.

“I think that for women there are possibilities. You just have to get out there, do your best and work hard,” she told The Messenger. “The bank is doing well and we just want to keep going forward and progressing with all the changes that are happening in the financial world. We want to keep serving the community like we have for the last 42 years.”

Broxson will maintain his title of CEO. Lane stressed he had not retired and added he was still very active in the day-to-day operations of the bank.

“He is on the board of directors and he’s here daily,” she said.

Lane received her Associate’s Degree in 1984, and began serving in the Loan Department as the as the secretary to the bank president. She was promoted to the position of loan services officer in 1991.

“Upon graduating Cum Laude from Sam Houston State University in 1995, Lane was promoted to Assistant Vice President and began managing a loan portfolio of consumer and real estate loans.  Lane was promoted to Vice President in 2000 and served in that capacity until 2013 when she was promoted to Executive Vice President,” the press release reported.

Lane is a long time resident of Lovelady and volunteers for a number of charities.
