Trinity Cross Country Making New Strides

TRINITY – A new wave of runners has take over in Trinity, helping make way on a new path for the Tiger Cross Country program. In 2015, the Tigers and Lady Tigers were completely shut out of the top five spots individually, and top three in the team standings. That is about to change.

For the Lady Tigers, it is all about sophomore Lilly Sizemore. As a freshman, Sizemore finished eighth overall in a crowded girls field. She would move on to the Region III Championship, but fall short of making an appearance at the State Tournament. However, with three more years of eligibility, Sizemore has the potential to be on the of the next big runners in east Texas.

Sizemore is far from the only top runner in Trinity as junior Francisco Manzanares was another elite runner for the Tigers last season. Second on the team to graduated senior Emmanuel Larios, Manzanares took control in 2015. The young Tiger finished 13th overall at the District Championships, before ending his season at the Region III Championship.

Manzanares is joined by Axel Coronado as another top young runner that could help lead the Tigers back to prominence on the running trails. Another junior in Edgar Guerrero, as well as sophomore Erick Salazar could help the Tigers return back to the Region III Championships and push for a berth in Austin before it is all said and done.

The youth movement looks to be building in Trinity, as now they look to carry that momentum into the upcoming seasons. With Sizemore and Manzanares leading the way, both the Tigers and Lady Tigers are starting to make new strides in the right direction.
