James Milton “Jimmy” Petty

James Milton “Jimmy” Petty, age 79, of Hagerville passed away December 14, 2017 in Lufkin. He was born January 24, 1938 in Houston to parents, James Edwin Petty and Mildred Creasy Petty. Jimmy was a long time farmer and rancher who lived for sale days and was a member of the Sale Barn Roundtable referred to as “his office” or “the table of knowledge.”

Jimmy’s motto was, “Never let the truth get in the way of a good story” He could always be found having dinner at Stockman’s on Thursday evenings sitting and discussing life with his rancher friends. Jimmy was co-founder with his brother, Tom of the Kennard Buyers’ Group which has been active for twenty plus years.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Crockett.

Jimmy is survived by his brother, Tom Petty and wife, Claudia of Hagerville; nephew, John Petty of Lufkin; niece, Jo Petty Smith and husband, Eric of Hagerville; great-nieces, Jessica Petty Hoy and husband, Lane of Plain, Jennifer Petty of Lufkin, Laney Smith of Hagerville; great-nephew, Coy Smith of Hagerville; sisters-in-law, Jean Farley of Bellaire and Jackie Lane of Friendswood; nieces, Vicki Beard and husband, H. J. of Crockett, Annette Menchaca of Houston; nephews, Joe Smoldas and wife, Glendia of Crockett, Edd Smoldas of Crockett; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; special friends, Danny Smith of Hagerville, Ricky and Rhonda Flasowski of Crockett; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Melba Lane Petty in 2010; parents, Edwin and Mildred Petty; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Evelyn Lane; sister-in-law, Rita Smoldas and husband, Vic; and brother-in-law, Billy Lane.

Funeral services for James Milton “Jimmy” Petty were held Sunday, December 17, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel with Bro. Ronnie Gladden officiating. Interment followed in the Ratcliff Antioch Cemetery.

The family received friends for visitation Saturday, December 16, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m.
