Jacqueline (Jackie) Laverne Hicks

Jacqueline (Jackie) Laverne Hicks was born June 1, 1950, in Elkhart, Texas, where she attended Henry High School and later entered Job Corps in Oklahoma. While there she met Joseph Maurice McNeal, with whom she had a son, Edward (Skeeter) Hicks. She later made Houston, Texas her home and raised her only son, Skeeter while working for Fleming Foods where she made lifelong friends who became her family.

Jackie loved spending time with her coworkers. She was always putting others needs before her own, up until her last days. During her failing health she continued to worry about her family and friends, wanting to ensure that they were going to be okay.

Jackie is survived by her son, Edward (Peggy) Hicks; four grandchildren, Sheela Dorsey, Robyn Rawlings, Terry Rawlings, and Daryl Rawlings; two great-grandchildren, Royston Love and Tucker Dorsey; her mother, Ouida Hatten; four siblings, Frances Wilmore, Gloria McKinney, Harold Hatten, Darrell (Portia) Hatten, and Grace Brown; uncle, Jimmy (Alice) Edwards; aunts, Cleo Hendricks, Zelma Miller and Yvonne Mackey; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends; and lifelong friends, Joyce Jarmon, Roselyn Honore, Alicia Johnson, Sheila Santino, Brenda Miller, Brenda Colar, Barbara Payton, Donna Parquet, Debora Tanner, Cynthia Broussard, Mary Guillory and Dinah Gabriel.

She was preceded in death by her father, F.L. Hicks; step-father, Tom Hatten; sisters, Gloria Marie and Antoinette Hicks; uncles, Willis (Ton) Edwards, Clifton (Mannish) Edwards, Sherman Edwards, Sheridan Edwards and Ross (M.) Edwards; and aunts, Peggy Bolden and Jeanette Pickles.

Services were held Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 9 a.m. at Bellfort Church of Christ, 6606 Bellfort St. in Houston with Brother Glenn officating.

Interment followed at Bluff Spring in Elkhart, Texas.

Arrangements were under the direction of Walker & Walker Funeral Home.
