Crockett and Grapeland Schools Host Area Basketball Tournament

HOUSTON COUNTY – While most enjoyed the slow week between Christmas and New Year and local schools were on vacation, local school athletes were competing in a county basketball tournament featuring teams from several area schools. 

The Houston County Holiday Basketball Tournament was held Wednesday-Friday Dec. 27-29 with games being played in both the Grapeland ISD gym and the Crockett ISD gym. 

Competition was fierce as teams battled to win the tournament. 

The results after the first day of competition were:

  • Da Vinci 67 – Aggieland 60
  • Madisonville 61 – Westwood 40
  • Diboll 65 – Trinity 32
  • Rusk 61 – Maypearl 63 (OT)
  • Crockett 57 – Aggieland 42
  • Grapeland 55 – Westwood 27
  • Madisonville 64 – Trinity 33
  • Crockett 57 – Maypearl 54
  • Diboll 76 – Grapeland 54

The second day was no less competitive than the first with more hard-fought wins:

  • Rusk 60 – Aggieland 56 (OT)
  • Madisonville 55 – Grapeland 48
  • Diboll 66 – Westwood 46
  • Da Vinci 53 – Maypearl 31
  • Grapeland 59 – Trinity 38
  • Rusk 55 – Crockett 56
  • Madisonville 55 – Diboll 40
  • Aggieland 60 – Maypearl 47
  • Westwood 56 – Trinity 28
  • Crockett 67 – Da Vinci 54

In the end, the Crockett boys went 5-1 beating 3A Division Diboll in the semi-finals before falling to Madisonville in the final round.

  • Grapeland – Omarion Wiley
  • Madisonville – Anqwan Morning (MVP), Lorenzo Johnson, Tavis York 
  • Rusk – Aiden McCown, Cameron Calhoun
  • Trinity – Jammale Johnson 
  • Aggieland – Eathan Cox 
  • Da Vinci – Marvin Arzaga, Edwin Serna 
  • Maypearl – Hunter Olson 
  • Diboll – Zach Phipps, Ian Willis
