WEEKLY BIBLE COMMENTARY by Wes Woodard 8-20-17

Genesis 1 – “Well Worth Remembering”

We are doing a series through the book of Genesis.  We have already seen the chaotic condition of the earth in verse 2 of chapter 1.  “The earth was formless and void.”  This is not how the Lord made it originally. In Isaiah 45:18 it says, “For the Lord, Who created the heavens (He is the God who formed the earth and make it, He established it and did not create it a waste place. But formed it to be inhabited.  Therefore, something bad happened to the earth between verses 1 and 2. Most likely, Lucifer rebelled against God taking one third of the angels with him, desiring to overthrow God.  God must restore the earth to its original perfect state.  This is what He does in the verses following 1:2.

Today, I want to emphasize how the God of the Bible works out His will through a plurality of male gender personalities: First, in the creation of the first man and woman.  1:26 reads, “Then God said, ‘Let us make man in Our image.”  Note this, God, the Father is addressing God the Son and the Holy Spirit.  The creation of Adam and Eve was a joint venture of the Trinity.

During the Church Age, which is right now, local church bodies are to be governed by a plurality of men.  Hebrews 13:17, “Obey your leaders and submit to them.” Note it says leaders (plural). Again in Revelation 5:8 we read, “When He had taken the book, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fall down before the Lamb.”  God, the Father, is seen with a plurality of male gender personalities, just before He pours out His wrath on the earth, the “Seven Year Great Tribulation”!
