Elkhart’s Ashley Buck Selected to TGCA All-State Track and Field Team

ELKHART – Elkhart Lady Elk and recent EHS graduate Ashley Buck has been selected to the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) Class AAA All-State Track and Field team, according to a TGCA press release received Thursday, June 1.
According to the media statement, “The Texas Girls Coaches Association selects All-State teams in track and field for conferences 1A-6A. Athletes are selected by the TGCA Track and Field All-State Committee at their annual meeting during the UIL State Meet. Athletes are nominated by member coaches. The head varsity coach must be a member of TGCA in good standing to be eligible to nominate athletes or receive honors. Up to 40 athletes may be selected per conference.”
Buck finished in fourth place at the 2017 UIL Class AAA State Track and Field Meet held last month. Buck also qualified for the state meet in the triple jump as a sophomore and a junior and finished in fourth place both years.
As a junior in 2016, Buck was a member of the Elkhart Lady Elks 4x200m and 4x400m relay teams which qualified for the state meet. The 2016 4x200m team finished seventh and the 4x400m team finished fourth.
During November of 2016, Buck signed a National Letter of Intent to join the track and field program at the United States Military Academy (West Point).
In addition, Buck – along with teammate Kerstin Humphires – were selected to the Class AAA Academic All-State Track and Field team
According to the TGCA, to qualify for selection to the Academic All-State team, “Athletes must be seniors; must have a GPA of 94 or above for grades 9-11; and must be a team member in good standing.”
Cayuga Lady Wildcat Stormi Lane was also honored by the TGCA as she was selected to the Class AA All-State Track and Field team.
