WEEKLY BIBLE COMMENTARY by Wes Woodard: Daniel 8

Daniel receives another vision in this chapter.  In this vision we see a foreshadowing of the rise, personality traits, and fall of a powerful king.  Verse 23 tells us that Daniel’s vision will take place at a later time.  In the same verse it says, “A king will arise (who will be) insolent and skilled in intrigue. His power will be mighty but not by his own power.  He will destroy to an extraordinary degree; and prosper and perform his will; he will destroy mighty men and the holy people (Israel). And through his shrewdness he will cause deceit to succeed… and he will magnify himself in his heart and will destroy many when they are at ease. He will even oppose the Prince of Princes (the Lord Jesus Christ), but he will be broken without human agency.”  “Then I Daniel was sick for days, then he got up again and carried on the king’s business, but was astounded by the vision, but there was no one to explain it.”

This coming king will oppress the Nation of Israel at a future time. No man knows when these things will take place. God the Father will bring the curtain down on Satan and all who follow him in his rebellion against the Almighty God.  Christians wait and think about the Lord’s Prayer: “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done; on Earth as it is in Heaven”.  Always remember Genesis 12:1-3: Those who bless the Jews will be blessed. Those who curse them will be cursed. Amen.
