Sandies Storm Past Bobcats for Bi-District Championship

 TYLER – Every player on the Grapeland roster scored during their 80-29 Bi-District Championship win over the Cross Roads Bobcats.

After the first four minutes of play, the game was never close as the Sandies raced out to a 17-4 first quarter lead. Grapeland got nine points from Riley Chipman in the opening eight minutes of play while Rodney Davis and Tyrin Wiley both had four.

The Bobcats scoring came from Jordan Hooter and Brandon Wilson with two apiece.

Things didn’t get any easier for Cross Roads in the second quarter as the Grapeland defense held them to nine points and only allowed them a grand total of 13 in the first half.

The Bobcats second period points came from Wilson with four while Hagen Dowell and Wesley Rogers both had two. Taylor McKenzie chipped in a free throw to close out the Cross Roads point production in the half.

The Sandies, meanwhile, dropped 24 on the Bobcats to open up a 41-13 lead by the break Parker Wilson got going with three 3-pointers, while Wiley had five more. Rick Frauenberger powered his way to four while Kamari Smith knocked down a 3-pointer, Chipman added two and Dacorian Bryant converted one of two from the free throw line.

After the break, the Sandie defense continued to shine as they held the Bobcats to six points in the third quarter on twos from Hooter, McKenzie and Wilson.

Grapeland continued to outpace their opponent as they scored 21 to extend their lead at the end of the third quarter to 62-19. Davis and Wilson led the way with seven apiece while Frauenberger, Smith and Case Boyd all had two. Tink McQuirter finally broke into the scoring column as he converted one of two from the charity stripe to close out the Grapeland third quarter scoring.

With a 43 point lead, the Sandie defense eased up somewhat and allowed the Bobcats to hit double digit scoring in a quarter with 10 in the fourth. Wilson had six as Hooter and McKenzie both scored two.

Two players recently called up from the JV led the way for Grapeland in the fourth quarter as Keriaun Davis dropped in eight points and Bryant scored six. Smith netted a pair of free throws while Josh “Bear” Ackley dropped in a pair of shots from the charity stripe to help Grapeland win by a final score of 80-29.

The Bobcats were led in scoring by Brandon Wilson with 14 points and Jordan Hooter with six. Taylor McKenzie had five while both Hagen Dowell and Wesley Rogers both had two.

Grapeland was led in the scoring department by Parker Wilson with 16 points while Riley Chipman and Rodney Davis both had 11. Tyrin Wiley dropped in nine, Keriaun Davis went for eight and Dacorian Bryant along with Kamari Smith had seven. Rick Frauenberger powered his way to six, both Josh Ackley and Case Boyd scored two apiece and Tink McQuirter rounded out the Sandie scoring with one.

The win moved the Sandies into the Area Championship against the Rosebud-Lott Cougars on Friday, Feb. 24, but as of press time, the score was unavailable.
