Lions Welcome New Member to Club

GRAPELAND – The Grapeland Noon Lions Club is growing again! Alphia (Nikki) Steinsbo was inducted into the Grapeland Noon Lions Club during their meeting held on Thursday, March 2 at the Grapeland Café.

Long-time Lions Club member Jack Owens recommended Steinsbo for membership and when the vote was taken, she was unanimously approved for membership.

Steinsbo is the owner of Best Friends Community Services.

“We are a resource group for people with intellectual developmental disabilities,” she explained.

Prior to Steinsbo’s induction, various committee reports were received by the club members. Lions Club President Ben Childress reported the club had recently purchased 20 chairs from the Grapeland Senior Citizens’ Center at the cost of $100.

Walter Scott reported the bleachers had at the Little League baseball/softball fields had been painted and were now complete.

Wayne Langham reported the old timbers around the playground equipment had been removed and new ones had been installed, with a weather proof coating.

Dianne Hollister reported work on the gazebo at the Grapeland City Park would be started on Friday, March 3.

Mike Goolsby reported the officer nominating committee had met and determined the slate of new club officers for 2016-2017.

“All of the new nominees for office have been contacted and have consented to serve if elected,” Goolsby said.

The nominees are: LCIF Coordinator – Eddie Childress; Chaplain – Edmund Franke; Reporter – Will Johnson; Membership Chairman – Ben Childress; Lion Tamer – Terry Hollister; Tail Twisters – Dianne Hollister and Harry Pridgen; Treasurer – Allen Cheatham; Secretary – Laura Walling; Second Vice President – Justin Lumbreraz; First Vice President – Mike Goolsby.

A candidate for the presidency has not been selected as of yet.

“These nominations are not set in stone. These are just recommendations from the committee. If there is someone here who would like to serve as an officer, please put your hand up,” Goolsby said.
