LATEXO – They had good looks at the basket and they had the shots, but sometimes it’s just not meant to be. The ball would go halfway in the hoop and rattle out. It would sit on the front of the rim and fall away or bounce off the back iron

The Latexo Lady Tigers looked to stay undefeated on the season as they took on the Little Centerville Lady Bulldogs on Wednesday, Nov.30 but it simply didn’t happen. The Lady Tigers’ shooting touch seemed to desert them at key moments of the game and they fell to the Little Centerville Lady Bulldogs by a final score of 46-37.

As the game got underway, it seemed as if a lid had been put over the Latexo goal. The ball would simply not go through the net and as a result the Lady Tigers only managed to put up five points in the first quarter. Gracie Zalesky scored three and Cinderella Rice added the other two points for Latexo.

Meanwhile, the Lady Bulldogs were able to double up on their hosts and led by a score of 11-5 after the first eight minutes of play. Hayley Selman led the way with eight points in the quarter while Savannah Westbrook made three of four from the line.

The second quarter saw the Lady Tigers begin to find some easy looks at the basket. Madison Catoe scored four for Latexo while a trio of Lady Tigers – Kurston Catoe, Randee Granberry and Kelsey latexo-lady-tigers-basketball-2Patterson – all scored two.

Little Centerville matched the Latexo scoring with 10 points of their own and took a 21-15 lead into the locker room at halftime. Mary Watson scored five for the Lady Bulldogs while Westbrook and Allison Carlton both added two. They were joined by Courtney Linton who made one of two from the line to close out the first half scoring.

While their shooting touch appeared to be coming back after the break, Latexo was unable to cut into Little Centerville lead in the third quarter. Jordan Davenport and Kurston Catoe both connected from three point range while Madison Catoe, Patterson and Zalesky all dropped in two.

The Lady Bulldogs got seven points from Watson and three apiece from both Selman and Westbrook. Linton and Haley Mott each scored two and gave the Lady Bulldogs a 38-27 lead with one quarter left to play.

Down by 11, the Lady Tigers amped up their defensive efforts and while they were able to get quite a few steals and turnovers, the shots Latexo got would not go down. Latexo was led by Granberry with four in the fourth while Davenport and Makayla Gunnels both knocked down a three.

In the final period of play, the Lady Bulldogs were led by Mott with six points and Westbrook added a basket to help keep the Lady Tigers at bay and give Little Centerville the 6-37 win.
