CROCKETT – A Crockett female made a late night/early morning visit to the Houston County Justice Center on Wednesday, Feb. 8 and was invited to stay after it was alleged she had stabbed a male acquaintance.

Jessica Monk, 31, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury after physical evidence indicated she had sliced the male acquaintance with a knife from “… from his armpit to his hip,” according to an arrest report filed by Crockett Police Officer Andrew Allen.

The arrest report indicated Allen was on patrol at approximately 3 a.m., Feb. 8, when he was dispatched to the Houston County Justice Center Jail Lobby in reference to a male individual who had walked into the facility and said he been cut with a knife.

“Before arriving on the scene, I was notified by dispatch that the other party involved had also walked into the lobby and the jail staff was afraid that a confrontation was about to happen,” the arrest report stated.

After Allen arrived on the scene, the report indicated he was able to identify both the male victim and the alleged perpetrator (Monk).

The police officer’s report went on to state he escorted the victim outside to question him about the incident.

“He stated that Monk had sliced him with a knife. Upon viewing his injuries, it was clear that he had been cut with some sort of weapon down the left side of his body from his armpit to his hip,” the legal document reported.

Allen also spoke with Monk who informed the officer she and the victim had been arguing over her recently arrested boyfriend, the arrest report added.

The report also alleged the victim had been yelling at Monk who “… stated she had pushed (the victim) but that she never did cut him with a knife.”

As he began to look into the matter, the report disclosed Allen took the victim back to the house where the alleged incident occurred to try and locate the knife but his efforts were unsuccessful.

However, “… due to the evidence provided and the visible injuries on (the victim), I placed Monk under arrest for the above charge (aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury) and she was taken back into the Houston County Jail,” the arrest report conveyed.

The offense of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury is considered a second degree felony. According to Section 12.33 of the Texas Penal Code, “An individual adjudged guilty of a felony of the second degree shall be punished by imprisonment in the institutional division for any term of not more than 20 years or less than two years. In addition to imprisonment, an individual adjudged guilty of a felony of the second degree may be punished by a fine not to exceed $10,000.”

Monk is being held at the Houston County Jail on a bond of $20,000.
