CPD and HCSO Net Two for Meth Distribution

CROCKETT – Two separate arrests – one on Monday and one on Tuesday – by the Crockett Police Department and the Houston County Sheriff’s Office have helped to somewhat reduce the presence of methamphetamine in the Oldest County in Texas.

Brenda Lee Kulms, a 55 year old female with a Crockett address, and Christina Ann Evans, a 38 year old female with a Houston County address, were arrested earlier this week and charged with the drug related crimes.

According to an arrest report from the Crockett Police Department, Kulms was arrested on Thursday, Nov. 10 after CPD Sergeant Alfredo Fajardo observed “… suspicious behavior from Kulms.”

In the report, Sgt. Fajardo stated he asked Kulms “… for consent to search her vehicle and she agreed. During the search, I found a homemade pipe that contained suspected marijuana debris, located in a factory compartment in the driver door. After locating the pipe, I asked Kulms to empty her jean pockets. Kulms complied and removed a small cylindrical container from one of her jean pockets and handed it to me, after trying to hide it in her hand and pocket. This container had a small blue bag which contained suspected crystal methamphetamine. The container itself also contained several pieces of suspected crystal methamphetamine.”

The suspected narcotics were field tested and the results tested positive for meth and weighed approximately 1.25 grams, according to the arrest report.

Fajardo placed Kulms under arrest and “… when asked, Kulms also made statements that she was going to deliver the bag of suspected methamphetamine to a subject in Crockett for another person. She said that she was supposed to return the proceeds of the transaction ($75) to a dealer and that she was getting the loose suspected methamphetamine that was in the blue container as a reward from the dealer,” the arrest report stated.

Kulms was booked into custody on the charges of possession of marijuana in a drug free zone (Class A misdemeanor) and manufacturing/delivery of a controlled substance, penalty group one, in an amount greater than or equal to one gram but less than four grams, a second degree felony.

On Tuesday, Nov. 15 Evans was booked into custody and charged with delivery of a controlled substance, penalty group one, in an amount greater than or equal to four grams but less than 200 grams.

Evans was also charged with several counts of fraudulent use or possession of identifying information items, a third degree felony.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, Houston County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Jerry Kaelin requested a warrant for Evans’ arrest after he received information from a confidential source in regard to Evans’ alleged illegal activity.

The affidavit stated, “Evans facilitated the delivery of a known quantity of crystal methamphetamine into Houston County, Texas from Anderson County, Texas. Inv. Kaelin recovered the methamphetamine from (a) confidential source following the delivery, which weighed seven grams and field tested positive for methamphetamine. Follow up investigations revealed Evans was in possession of seven other individuals’ identification information which included check books, checks, driver licenses and credit cards. Evans passed checks on Oct. 24 at Brookshire Brothers in Palestine that belonged to a female victim who currently resides in Pennsylvania.”

Kulms is being held at the Houston County Jail on bond totaling $13,000.

Evans is also currently held at the Houston County Jail and total bond amount has been set at $32,000.
