Bulldogs Claim Gold in 4x100m Relay; Finish Second in Team Standings

2019 UIL State Track and Field Meet Results

AUSTIN – The 2019 UIL State Track and Field Meet was held this past weekend and several area athletes brought home a little hardware.

Starting at the Class 3A level, the Crockett Bulldogs claimed the state championship in the 4X100m relay with a time of 41.68. The relay team was comprised of Cristian Brice, Joseph Porter, Alton Owens and Demarcus Richardson.

The Bulldogs also picked up a bronze medal in the 4X200m relay with a time of 1:28.8. The 4X200m relay team was comprised of Toreyan Jones, Demarcus Richardson, Shannon Bacon and Joseph Porter.

Crockett’s Demarcus Richardson also picked up a silver medal for his second place finish in the 100m dash with a time of 10.69.

As a team, the Bulldogs came very close to winning their second overall team title in three years as they finished second with 40 points while Dallas Life Oak Cliff finished first with 46.

The Elkhart Elks were also well-represented at the Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas at Austin campus.

Elkhart Elk Demarkus Ray picked up a silver medal in the 400m for his second place finish with a time of 49.41.

In the field events, Elkhart’s Ky Thomas brought home a bronze medal in the discus with a throw of 158’-9”.

The Elks’ Andrew Thlang was also in Austin and finished in a tie for seventh in the pole vault with a cleared height of 14’-0”.

As a team, the Elks finished in a three-way tie for 12th with 14 points.

The Lady Elks were also represented in Austin as Madison Crader brought home a bronze medal after she cleared 5’4”.

Other area athletes included Frankston’s Brink Bizzell who finished sixth in the pole vault with a height of 14’0”. Bizzell edged out Elkhart’s Thlang based on misses.

The Trinity Tigers’ Justin Standley brought home a silver medal in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.39.

Moving to the Class 2A level, in the girls’ high jump, Grapeland’s Teira Jones finished fourth – based on misses – with a cleared height of 5’-00”.

In the boys’ high jump, Lovelady’s Tre’Von Hawkins finished tied for eighth but did not post a height.

The girls’ triple jump saw Grapeland Sandiette Aeriannia Granderson finish in seventh place with a leap of 35-03.25. She also competed in the long jump and finished ninth with a leap of 15’-6.25”.

In the boys’ long jump, Lovelady Lion Tre Hawkins finished seventh with a leap of 21’-0.5”.

In the boys’ triple jump, Lovelady had two athletes make the state finals. Jay Thomas Robinson placed fourth with a leap of 44’-7.5”. Teammate Tre Hawkins was right behind him in fifth with a leap of 44’-7”.

The boys’ 3200m run Slocum Mustang Justin Neal finished eighth with a time of 10:29.62.

Other area schools and competitors at the state meet were:

  • The Alto Yellow Jackets –

The 4x100m relay finished second with a time of 42.79.

The 4X200m relay finished eighth with a time of 1:31.02.

Isaiah Gaddis finished sixth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.69. Gaddis also qualified for the state meet in the 300m hurdles and finished fifth with a time 39.80.

Fred Thacker finished first in the discus with a throw of 179’-02”. Thacker also finished first in the shot put with a heave of 56’-5.5”

  • The Alto Lady Yellow Jackets –

BriAnna Green finished fifth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.57.

Chesnee Upshaw finished ninth in the 300m hurdles with a time of 48.87.

Aby Bernard finished ninth with a height of 9’-6”.

  • The Cayuga Lady Wildcats –

Aerin Thompson finished sixth with a time of 2:23.23. Thompson also finished sixth in the 400m with a time of 1:01.23.

Stormi Lane finished fifth in the 200m dash with a time of 26.2.

  • The Centerville Tigers –

Caleb Willis finished fourth with a time of 50.86.

Josh Franklin finished seventh in the 1600m run with a time of 4:45.68.

The 4X400m relay team finished ninth with a time of 3:33.94.

  • The Centerville Lady Tigers –

Michaela Kmiec finished fourth with a time of 2:21.28.

  • The Leon Lady Cougars –

Caitlynn Bargas finished eighth with a time of 16.59. Bargas also finished fifth in the 300m hurdles with a time of 47.43.

The 4x400m relay team finished eighth with a time of 4:12.70.
