I Samuel 9 & 10 – “Saul Anointed King”

In 9:2 the text says, “Saul was a handsome man, and there was not a more handsome person than he from his shoulders and up he was taller than any of the people.”  In 10:1 it reads, “Than Samuel took the flask of oil, poured it on his head, kissed him and said, ‘Has not the Lord anointed you a ruler over His in heritance?’”  So, the Hebrews have their first king!  But, Saul has one big problem. He will rule his way, not God’s way.  The results will be terrible.  If you are a Christian you have probably seen a fellow Christian living this way. I have. They think they can direct their lives better than God! Sad. Matthew 6:33 still applies to every Christian. “But seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things (our needs) will be added to you.”  Our goal should be to do His will and glorify Him thereby. This can only be done by His Spirit that dwells within us. Amen.
