EAST TEXAS – With only two games remaining – as of press time – in District 21-2A softball, it appears the Leon Lady Cougars are headed into the playoffs with the number one seed.

It’s been a topsy-turvy year in league play. The Lady Cougars have surprised many people and will win the district crown barring a monumental collapse against both the Latexo Lady Tigers and Grapeland Sandiettes.

The Sandiettes are sitting in the number two spot after two losses in games they probably should have won. Grapeland lost to Leon by a score of 3-1 and a week later dropped a 2-1 extra innings game to the Lovelady Lady Lions.

The Lady Lions are currently third in district after two heartbreaking losses to Leon and a loss to the Sandiettes. Lovelady lost to the Lady Cougars in early March by a score of 1-0 and dropped a 4-3 decision last week on a walk-off HR.

The Centerville Lady Tigers have locked up the fourth seed in the playoffs from District 21-2A, despite their recent 4-1 loss to the Lady Lions.

The Latexo Lady Tigers did not qualify for the playoffs.

Two of the three – Slocum, Kennard and Oakwood – (probably Slocum and Oakwood) will drop down to play in Class 1A when the playoffs begin.

The Sandiettes and Lady Cougars will play this Friday, April 19. If the Sandiettes win, they lock down the number two seed. If Leon wins, the Sandiettes and Lady Lions will be tied for second and some type of tie-breaker will be implemented.

Regardless of the outcome, don’t be surprised to see a Grapeland-Lovelady match-up in the Regional Quarterfinals.
