CROCKETT – During a meeting of the Crockett Independent School District Board of Trustees, held on Monday, Feb. 25, several groups of students received special recognition.

As the meeting began, Crockett ISD Superintendent Terry Myers said there would be three sets of students honored during the meeting.

“We are going to start with the Elementary UIL Academic team,” he said as he yielded the floor to Crockett Elementary Principal Robin Stowe.

The principal said while the school was in a new region “… we came in second overall. I am very, very proud of her students.”

After the individual students from the elementary had been recognized, Stowe turned the program over to Teresa Monroe who helped sponsor the district’s Junior High robotics team. Monroe indicated the team had finished in the middle of the pack during a recent competition but stressed the team was steadily moving up in competitive events.

The third group of students who were recognized comprised the Jr. High/High School Band.

Myers remarked, “This is one of the most improved, if not the most improved programs in this district.”

The superintendent turned the program over to Band Director Gary Fitch who informed the board 29 students at the junior high level made a Division 1 in band competition. At the high school, Fitch said, “Eight of our kids made a one and all but three made a one or a two.”

Following the recognitions, District One Board Member Ansel Bradshaw said the district had recently been gifted with a donation from the local Walmart store.

“Walmart, locally, made a significant donation of school supplies which have been split between the elementary and junior high. The total is an estimated $4,300. I can’t say enough about Walmart and what they do for the community,” Bradshaw said.

The board unanimously accepted the donation.

In other matters brought before the board:

  • Consent agenda items were approved.
  • Approval was given for TASB Policy Update 112.
  • The 2019-2020 school calendar was adopted.
  • The board approved cancelling the School District Trustee Election for District One since it will now be uncontested.
