Bulldogs Stroll into Regional Quarterfinals

FAIRFIELD – The Crockett Bulldogs traveled to Fairfield on Friday, Feb. 22 for an Area Championship game with the Maypearl Panthers. Entering the game, the Bulldogs were 24-3 and ranked at #14 in the final regular season TABC poll while the Panthers were unranked and sported a record of 27-11.

The game was never in doubt as Crockett sprinted out to a double-digit lead early in the first quarter and then throttled it back to win comfortably by a final score of 83-40.

As the game got underway, Crockett jumped out to a 26-7 lead thanks in large part to Jordan Bedford’s nine points. He was joined in the scoring column by Allen Horace with six and Ty White with four. AJ Owens connected from behind the arc, while Teddy Jones and Chris Purvis had two apiece.

The Panthers points came Josh Calhoun with three while both Josh Lawrence and Carson McManus had two apiece.

The second quarter belonged to Owens as he drained a pair of threes to go along with two free throws. Horace added three and Devin Walker chipped in two as the Bulldogs took a 39-12 into the locker room at halftime.

Tyce Mease scored three second quarter points for the Panthers while Calhoun picked up the other two.

After the break, the Panthers came out firing from behind the arc in an attempt to get back in the game. Calhoun had eight on a pair of threes and a two. McManus, Lex Lewis, and Heath Roesler all connected from downtown but it wasn’t nearly enough to keep them in it.

Meanwhile, Owens kept up his torrid pace with 10 points in the third quarter. White added six while Bedford, Horace and Walker added two apiece. Teddy Jones made one of two from the line to help push the Bulldog lead out to 63-29, after three periods of play.

The fourth quarter was primarily garbage time for both teams. Calhoun put in eight while McManus had two and Reilly Evans had one.

Horace paced the fourth quarter scoring for Crockett as he poured in 11 points. Randy Jones added four, White had three, Purvis had two and Emmanuel Aldaco made one of two from the line to close out the Crockett scoring and help capture the Area Championship by a final score of 83-40.

On the game, Maypearl was led by Josh Calhoun with 21 points. Carson McManus had seven, Josh Lawrence had five and Lex Lewis along with Reilly Evans had three apiece to round out the Panthers’ point production.

Allen Horace led the Bulldogs in scoring with 22 points while AJ Owens had 21. Ty White netted 13 and Jordan Bedford notched 11. Three Bulldogs – Randy Jones, Chris Purvis and Devin Walker – all had four, Teddy Jones had three and Emmanuel Aldaco closed out the Crockett scoring with one.

Next up for Crockett was the Regional Quarterfinals game against the Little River Academy Bumblebees. The game was held on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at A&M Consolidated but as of press time, the score was unavailable.
