Crockett Holds off Groesbeck, 61-49

CROCKETT – With the regular season winding down, the Crockett Lady Bulldogs found themselves in a fight for the postseason. Crockett sat in fourth place coming into Friday night’s contest against the Groesbeck Lady Goats who were just a game behind the Lady Bulldogs for the final playoff spot.

By the time the game ended, the Lady Bulldogs had solidified their place in the standings with a 61-49 win over the Lady Goats. The win also gave the Lady Bulldogs a realistic shot at moving into the third seed and even possibly the second seed heading into the playoffs.

As the game got underway, the Lady Bulldogs used a 9-0 run on their way to a 21-6 first quarter lead. Katelin Holmes and Tynaisha McKnight paced Crockett with eight points apiece. Jaida Lockhart made three of four from the line and Shabess Johnson chipped in two to round out the Lady Bulldogs first period scoring.

The Lady Goats’ points came from Brianna Dobson with three, Kiera Anglin with two and Kyla Evans with one.

The second quarter saw the Lady Bulldogs go to the charity stripe 12 times and convert six as they opened up a 39-14 lead when halftime rolled around. Three Crockett players – Holmes, McKnight and Quenisha Henderson all had four. Both Keaton Crabtree and Chelsea Walker dropped in two while Johnson and Lockhart added one apiece.

Kiera Anglin dropped in three for Groesbeck while Evans and Tavia Anglin had two apiece. Brooke Van Winkle sank one of two from the line to close out the Lady Goats first half scoring.

Following the break, the Lady Goats began to chip away at the Crockett lead. Kole Tatum paced Groesbeck with seven points while K. Anglin, Evans and Kayla Menzel all had two. Van Winkle chipped in one as the Lady Goats shaved six points off the lead.

Tynaisha McKnight powers her way inside for two of her game-high 20 points against the Groesbeck Lady Goats. The Lady Bulldogs won the contest 61-49.

The Lady Bulldogs had four players – Crabtree, Henderson, Holmes and Alinjah McKnight – all score two apiece as Crockett led 47-28 after three.

Try as they might, the Lady Goats could not seem to overcome the 19-point deficit. Tatum and Kennedy Cox poured in eight apiece as Dobson knocked down a three and Van Winkle chipped in two.

Crockett did just enough in the fourth quarter to hold off the Groesbeck charge and secure the 61-49 victory. T. McKnight scored eight points, A. McKnight had four and Walker dropped in a basket to close out the Crockett point production.

On the game, Kole Tatum led the Lady Goats in scoring with 15 points. Kennedy Cox dropped in eight and Kiera Anglin went for seven. Brianna Dobson added six, Kyla Evans had five and Brooke Van Winkle had four. Tavia Anglin and Kayla Menzel both had two to round out the Groesbeck point production.

The Lady Bulldogs were led in scoring by Tynaisha McKnight with a game-high 20 points. Katelin Holmes poured in 14 while Quenisha Henderson and Alinjah McKnight had six apiece. Three other Lady Bulldogs – Keaton Crabtree, Jaida Lockhart and Chelsea Walker – all had four while Shabess Johnson added three to round out the Crockett scoring.
