Crockett Takes Down Teague, 44-39

CROCKETT – Coming into Friday night’s game against the Teague Lady Lions, the Crockett Lady Bulldogs were tied with the Westwood Lady Panthers for the fourth and final playoff spot out of District 20-3A.

While a loss would definitely hurt the Lady Bulldogs postseason chances, it would not eliminate them from contention. A win, on the other hand, and Crockett would be right back in the thick of things as they would only be a game out of second place.

For the first half of play, it looked like the Lady Bulldogs were going to falter and have to do battle against the Lady Panthers for the final postseason berth. A stirring second half comeback, however, gave Crockett the 44-39 win and moved the Lady Bulldogs district mark to 4-4, one game behind Frankston and Teague who are now sporting 5-3 District 20-3A marks.

As the game got underway, Teague’s Regan Heggins and Destanee Roblow dominated the inside as they both had eight points apiece. T.K. Jones added a two as the lady Lions raced out to an early 18-10 lead.

Crockett’s points came from Tynaisha McKnight with five, Katelin Holmes with three and Shabess Johnson with two.

The second quarter saw the Lady Lions extend their lead to double digits. Roblow netted six from inside while Mallory Steen dropped in a three and Heggins added two.

The Lady Bulldogs continued to struggle from the field during the second period as they only scored six points on twos from Johnson, T. McKnight and Alinjah McKnight as Crockett found itself staring up at a 29-16 halftime deficit.

Following the break, it appeared as if the Lady Bulldogs had regained their focus as they held Teague to only three points on a two from Heggins and a free throw from Roblow.

Offensively, Crockett began to chip away at the Teague lead and managed to cut it to 32-27 by the end of the third quarter. T. McKnight and Jaida Lockhart both had five while Holmes had two and Johnson made one of two from the charity stripe.

Crockett cut the lead to three at the seven minute mark and when Holmes dropped in a pair of free throws with 6:15 left to play, the Lady Bulldogs took a 33-32 lead.

It appeared as if the Lady Lions simply ran out of gas in the fourth quarter as Roblow went for five while Heggins added two.

Holmes paced the Lady Bulldogs with seven points, including five of six from the line. A. McKnight and Quenisha Henderson both had four while Johnson had a basket as Crockett overcame the 13-point halftime deficit to win by a final score of 44-39.

On the game, the Lady Lions were paced by Destanne Roblow with a game-high 20 points and Regan Heggins with 14. Mallory Steen made a three and T.K. Jones added a basket to close out the Teague point production.

The Lady Bulldogs were led in scoring by Katelin Holmes with 12 points and Tynaisha McKnight with 11. Shabess Johnson netted seven and Alinjah McKnight had six. Quenisha Henderson and Jaida Lockhart had four apiece to close out the Crockett scoring.
