WESTWOOD – The Crockett Bulldogs hit the road on Tuesday evening, Jan. 8 for a District 20-3A matchup against the Westwood Panthers. While the Bulldogs are ranked #20 in the latest TABC poll, the Westwood Tigers are on the outside looking in.

Last year, the Panthers set the bar fairly high and the expectations for this year were no less lofty. The Panthers gave the Bulldogs a run for their money but in the end, Crockett’s big man – Allen Horace – was just too much for Westwood as Horace and the Bulldogs pulled away to win the contest by a score of 67-52.

Ty White puts up a little floater as part of his 11 points on the night. The Bulldogs defeated the Westwood Panthers by a final score of 67-52.

The game started out with Westwood taking a slim 13-11 lead after the first eight minutes of play. Jaren Turner dropped in a three to go along with a pair of free throws for five Westwood points. Mario Black added three while Bri’Darian Hunt and Ka’Donte Watkins had two. Devonte Downie made one of two from the line to round out the Panthers first quarter scoring.

The Bulldogs were paced by Horace with four while Teddy Jones drained a three as both Jordan Bedford and Jalyne Carruthers went for two.

The second quarter, quite simply, was dominated by Horace with 21 points. Westwood could not stop him and when they managed to foul in an effort to slow him down, Horace calmly went to the line and canned five of seven free throws. Khardarius Easterling and Ty White added two apiece as the Bulldogs opened up a 36-23 halftime lead.

Turner knocked down six for the Panthers while Hunt had three and Downie made one of two from the charity stripe to end the second quarter scoring.

Following the break, the Bulldogs gave Horace somewhat of a rest. When they did, White took over as he dropped in seven third quarter points. AJ Owens broke into the scoring column with a three while both Bedford and Horace chipped in two which made the score 50-36 after three periods of play.

Crockett’s Allen Horace goes up for two of his game-high 32 points as the Bulldogs defeated the Westwood Panthers by a final score of 67-52.

The Panthers third quarter scoring came from Black with eight and Turner with five points.

Horace was back at it again in the fourth quarter as he and Owens both dropped in five. Bedford added three while both White and Chris Purvis had two apiece to round out the Crockett scoring.

The Panthers were led by Turner’s 11 fourth quarter points. Hunt drained a three and Black chipped in two as the Panthers fell to the Bulldogs by a final score of 67-52.

On the game, Westwood was led in scoring by Jaren Turner with 27 points. Mario Black went for 13 and Bri’Darian Hunt netted eight. Devonte Downie and Ka’Dante Watkins added two each to close out the Panthers point production.
