GRAPELAND – While the Leon Lady Cougars may rule the court in volleyball, when it comes to basketball, the Lady Cougars have a ways to go to catch up with the district front-runners. The Grapeland Sandiettes reminded Leon about this on Friday as they crushed the Lady Cougars by a score of 76-31.

The Sandiettes raced out to a 17-pont lead after the first eight minutes of play as Kenya Woods opened up on fire. Woods had nine points in the first quarter to go along with five from KeKe Harris, four from Teira Jones and a three-pointer from Ragan Bowie.

The Lady Cougars’ points came from Sarah Grace Merry and Sarah Rains – both with two – as Leon

found itself staring up at a 21-4 deficit after one period of play.

Things didn’t get much better in the second quarter for Leon as Merry tallied the only four points for the Lady Cougars.

Grapeland, meanwhile continued to hammer away at the Leon defense. Hannah Chipman dropped in six, Woods added four, Harris knocked down a three-pointer and Tori Woodford chipped in two to help give the Sandiettes a 36-8 lead at halftime.
