Sandiettes Move to 3-0 in District

LATEXO – The girls’ basketball season is in full swing now as many area teams have entered district play. In District 20-AA, the Grapeland Sandiettes moved to 3-0 and sit atop the standings following their win over the Latexo Lady Tigers on Tuesday by a score of 91-11.

The game was over shortly after it began as the Sandiettes exploded for 38 first quarter points while not allowing a single point to the Lady Tigers.

Grapeland was paced in the opening quarter by KeKe Harris who knocked down four three-pointers to go along with a two from inside. Ragan Bowie netted 10 while both Hannah Chipman and Teira Jones had six. Kenya Woods also broke into the scoring column with a two.

In the second quarter, Maggie Gibbins took the lid off of the basket for Latexo as she drained a three to go along with a midrange jumper for five points in the quarter.

Bowie continued to stay hot for Grapeland as she added seven more to her total. Jones and JaMiyah Bowie had four apiece, Chipman added three and both Woods, along with Kaylee Francis, had two points each to help give Grapeland a commanding 60-5 lead at halftime.

Following the break, the Lady Tigers scored six points to break into double digits. Gibbins, Madison Catoe and Jamie Welch all had two to make the score 81-11 after three periods of play.

The Sandiettes’ points came from Woods with six while both R. Bowie and Harris chipped in five. Jones added three and Francis netted two to close out the third quarter.

The fourth period saw the Sandiettes milk the clock as they held the Lady Tigers scoreless, yet again. Tori Woodford led the Sandiettes in the final period with four while three other Sandiettes – R. Bowie, Harris and Woods – all had two which made the final score 91-11.

On the game, the Lady Tigers scoring came from Maggie Gibbins with seven, as both Madison Catoe and Jamie Welch had two apiece.

The Sandiettes were led by Ragan Bowie with 22 points and KeKe Harris with 21. Tera Jones knocked down 13, Kenya Woods had 12 and Hannah Chipman went for nine. Rounding out the Sandiette scoring – JaMiyah Bowie, Kaylee Francis and Tori Woodford – all had four.

Grapeland gets a little bit of a break for Christmas but will back on the court on Wednesday, Dec. 27 as they play in the Mansfield Tournament. Latexo hit the road on Friday, Dec. 21 for a game against the Leon Lady Cougars, but as of press time, the score was unavailable.
