Slocum Lady Mustangs Swat Cayuga Lady Wildcats,60-26

SLOCUM – For the third time in six days, the Slocum Lady Mustangs squared off against the Cayuga Lady Wildcats on the basketball court.The two teams met in a first-round game during the Elkhart Holiday Tournament,won by Slocum, 49-27.

The Lady Wildcats battled their way back to the championship game in Elkhart where the Lady Mustangs were waiting for them. The game was significantly closer but – once again – Slocum picked up the win by a final score of 49-33.

It has been said the third time’s a charm, but in the case of Cayuga – the third time was just more of the same against Slocum as the Lady Mustangs crushed the Lady Wildcats on Tuesday, Dec 4 by a final score of 60-26.

Slocum opened the game on a 12-0 run and never looked back as the Lady Mustangs opened up a 19-3 lead after the first eight minutes of play. Gina Lively drained a pair of three-pointers and Jalyn Fletcher had five points to help pace the scoring. Laney Lasiter had four while both Gabi Skelton and Jaidan Wickersham both had two.

The Cayuga first period points came from Briley Shaw with three.

The second quarter saw the Lady Mustangs pad their lead as they opened up a 21-point bulge by the time the horn blew for halftime. Skelton dropped in six for Slocum as Lively and Wickersham both knocked a three.Fletcher added a pair of free throws to close out the first half point production with the Lady Mustangs up by a score of 33-12.

The Lady Wildcats scoring came from Reagan Clark with five along with Ari and Hannah Bryant who both had two.

The third quarter saw Slocum put the game on ice as the held Cayuga to a single basket by Clark. The Lady Mustangs, on the other hand kept the up-tempo pace going as Fletcher hit a pair of threes, Lively had five and Wickersham added four to give Slocum a 48-14 lead after three periods were in the books.

The fourth quarter saw the Lady Wildcats show some signs of life as they scored 12 points in the quarter, which was not nearly enough to threaten the Slocum lead. Cayuga’s 12 points came from Clark with five, Julia Griffey with a three while Shaw and Alex Jenkins added two.

Slocum’s fourth quarter points came from Lively and Libby Kessel who both had six to close out the game by a score of 60-26.

On the game, Cayuga’s points came from: Reagan Clark with 12; Briley Shaw with five; Julia Griffey with three; and Abi Bryant, Hannah Bryant and Alex Jenkins all with two.

The Lady Mustangs were led by Gina Lively with a game-high 20 points. Jalyn Fletcher knocked down 13 while Jaidan Wickersham had nine and Gabi Skelton had eight. Rounding out the Slocum point production, Libby Kessel dropped in six and Laney Lasiter had four.
