MADISONVILLE – The Lovelady Lions kicked off postseason play on Thursday night, Nov. 15 against the Dawson Bulldogs in a Bi-District tilt held in Madisonville.

The Lions came into the contest with a record of 8-2 and a second place finish in District 12-AA DII while the Bulldogs were the third place finisher in District 11-AA DII with an overall record of 5-4.

Lovelady was the heavy favorite in the contest and wasted little timing in showing why as they opened up a 30-7 lead in the first quarter and then cruised to a 69-19 win.

The second quarter was more of the same as the Lions continued to dominate the Bulldogs and posted a 54-13 by the time the horn sounded for halftime.

With a 41-point lead, Coach Jon Lowery began to rest his starters and give some of the lesser experienced players, a taste of playoff football.

The Lions still added another 15 in the third while they held Dawson to six and brought the scoring to an end with the Lions ahead by a final score of 69-19.

Next up for the Lions are the Muenster Hornets. The Hornets come into the game with a record of 10-1 and a number three ranking in Dave Campbell’s Texas High School Football Poll. The Lions record now sites at 9-2 and they are ranked number eight.

The two teams will lockup for the Area Championship on Friday, Nov. 23 at Rains High School in Emory. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
