Hunt for the Playoffs Begins

EAST TEXAS – For several area teams, district volleyball season is at or nearing the midway point and for quite a few teams in in the region, this means thoughts of the postseason are beginning to surface with the ultimate goal of playing in the state championship during mid-November at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland.

In District 21-2A, the Neches Lady Tigers are atop the standings with an 8-0 record after they defeated the Latexo Lady Tigers on Friday, Sept. 28 in three by scores of 25-6, 25-7 and 25-2. They also dropped the Grapeland Sandiettes on Tuesday, Oct. 2.

On Friday, Sept. 28 the Cayuga Lady Wildcats defeated the state-ranked Kerens Lady Bobcats in straight sets by scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-21. The Lady Wildcats turned around and did the same to the Latexo Lady Tigers by scores of 25-9, 25-9 and 25-9 on Tuesday.

The Grapeland Sandiettes kept their district record at .500 as their district record moved to 4-4. The Sandiettes picked up a win on Friday, Sept. 28 as they dropped the Trinidad Lady Trojans in five by scores of 21-25, 19-25, 25-19, 25-15 and 15-4. On Tuesday, Grapeland fell to the Neches Lady Tigers.

The Latexo Lady Tigers lost both matches they played over the last week as they fell to the Neches Lady Tigers on Friday of last week by scores of 25-6, 25-7 and 25-2 and the Cayuga Lady Wildcats by scores of 25-9, 25-9 and 25-9 on Tuesday.

The Westwood Lady Panthers kept pace with the Teague Lady Lions as they stayed one game behind the District 20-3A leaders with a defeat of the Elkhart Lady Elks by scores of 25-18, 25-18, and 25-16 on Friday, Sept. 28. They also took down the Buffalo Lady Bison on Tuesday, Oct. 2.

The Elkhart Lady Elks are just behind the leaders with a 4-3 record. The Lady Elks dropped a three game match to the Westwood Lady Panthers Teague Lady Lions by scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-16 on Friday. Elkhart got back on track Tuesday with a sweep of the Frankston Maidens by scores of 25-14, 25-20 and 25-23.

The Crockett Lady Bulldogs are 1-6 in District 20-3A after last week’s debacle. The Lady Bulldogs fell to the Groesbeck Lady Goats by scores of 25-9, 25-11 and 25-11. They also fell to the Teague Lady Lions by scores of 25-13, 25-12 and 25-10.

The Frankston Maidens are 0-7 in district play after they lost to the Teague Lady Lions and Elkhart Lady Elks.

In District 19-4A, the Palestine Lady Cats had the night off on Friday, Sept. 28 but played a big match against the Rusk Lady Eagles on Tuesday, Oct. 2 where they picked up a four-game win by scores of 25-20, 26-24, 14-25 and 25-23.

The Madisonville Lady Mustangs fell to the Mexia Lady Black Cats on Friday, Sept. 28 by scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-12. Madisonville was off on Tuesday.
