ELKHART – The Elkhart Lady Elks are in the thick of the playoff chase and got a much-needed win over the Frankston Maidens on Tuesday, Oct. 2.

The Lady Elks swept the Maidens by scores of 25-14, 25-20 and 25-23 as the second half of District 20-3A got underway Tuesday evening. The win moves Elkhart’s record to 4-3 in district and keeps them in the fourth playoff spot.

The first game of the match saw the Lady elks take an early lead and never relinquish it. While the Maidens were able to mount a pair of mini-rallies to tie things up at 11 and then again at 14.

From there, however, the Lady Elks rattled off 11 straight points to take the first game of the match by a score of 25-14.

Game two of the match was a back and forth affair. The Maidens led throughout much of the game. While Frankston moved ahead early, the Lady Elks never allowed the Maidens to get ahead by more two.

The Lady Elks tied up game two at 12, but the Maidens came back to knot things at 16 as they gave Elkhart all they could handle.

At that point in the contest, the Lady Elks began an aerial assault of kills and blocks to pull away and win game two by a score of 25-23.

Down 2-0, the Maidens came out for the third game and took the early lead. Frankston opened up a three-point gap at 7-4 and then pushed it to four at 12-8.

The Lady Elks slowly began to reel the Maidens back in as they got to within two points at 16-14 and then tied things up at 18.

From there, the Lady Elks pulled scored two and then the Maidens scored two to make the score 20 apiece.

The two teams tied again at 22 before the Lady Elks managed to pull away for the game by a final of 25-23 and the match by scores of 25-14, 25-20 and 25-23.
