Volleyball Recap – Sept. 27

District Play in Full Swing

EAST TEXAS – District volleyball season is in full swing as all teams have now started league play. The hunt for a playoff berth is underway and several area teams are looking as if they might make some noise come playoff time.

In District 21-2A, the Neches Lady Tigers are atop the standings with a 6-0 record after they defeated the Cross Roads Lady Bobcats on Friday, Sept. 21 in three by scores of 25-12, 25-9 and 25-12. They also dropped the Kerens Lady Bobcats on Tuesday, Sept. 25.

On Friday, Sept. 21 Cayuga defeated the Oakwood Lady Panthers in straight sets and turned around and did the same to Cross Roads by scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-16.

The Grapeland Sandiettes kept their district record at .500 as their district record moved to 3-3. The Sandiettes dropped a Saturday, Sept. 22 contest against the Kerens Lady Wildcats in three by scores of 25-12, 25-22 and 25-18. On Tuesday, Grapeland defeated the Latexo Lady Tigers.

In District 22-2A, the Lovelady Lady Lions district season finally got underway, but not how they hoped for. The Lady Lions first district game of the season was against the Iola Lady Bulldogs and they fell in three by scores of 25-22, 25-5 and 25-6. On Tuesday, Lovelady took on the Leon Lady Cougars and lost in three by scores of 25-19, 25-13 and 25-11.

The Westwood Lady Panthers dropped their first match in District 20-3A competition on Friday, Sept. 21 as they were defeated the Teague Lady Lions in a thrilling five set victory. The Lady Panthers lost by scores of 27-25, 20-25, 25-23, 25-21 and 10-15.  The Lady Panthers bounced back with a straight set win over Frankston on Tuesday, Sept. 25.

The Elkhart Lady Elks are just behind the leaders with a 3-2 record. The Lady Elks were idle last Friday but dropped a three game match to the Teague Lady Lions by scores of 25-17, 25-18 and 25-17.

The Crockett Lady Bulldogs are 1-4 in District 20-3A.

The Frankston Maidens are 0-5 in district play after they lost to the Groesbeck Lady Goats and the Westwood Lady Panthers.

In District 19-4A, the Palestine Lady Cats fell in their district opener against the Fairfield Lady Eagles by scores of 25-17, 21-25, 25-23 and 25-23. On Tuesday of last week, the Lady Cats took on the Madisonville Lady Mustangs and fell in four by scores of 25-20, 22-25, 21-25 and 16-25.

The Lady Mustangs also started off District 19-4A competition with a loss as they fell to the Rusk Lady Eagles by scores of 25-19, 17-25, 19-25 and 19-25. As previously mentioned, Madisonville Palestine on Tuesday, Sept. 25.
