ELKHART – The Elkhart Elks were fresh off their first victory of the season after they defeated Frankston 19-7 and were looking to add to their win total win they welcomed the Troup Tigers to Jerry Ives Memorial Stadium last Friday.

Unfortunately for the Elks, they ran into an angry ambush of Tigers who were coming off of a hard-fout 35-28 loss to Carlisle the week before.

The Tigers scored first on a 49-yard TD pass and took a 7-0 lead after the first period of play.

Once the second period began, Troup took over the line of scrimmage and rattled off 20 unanswered points to move ahead 27-0.

Elkhart’s Landry Mays helped the Elks cut into the Tiger lead when he scampered 45 yards for a TD. The XP cut the Lead to 27-7 and Ky Thomas gave the Elks two more points when he threw a Troup ball carrier for a loss in the end zone.

The safety made the score 27-9 as the two teams headed into the locker rooms at the half.

Following the halftime show, the Tigers took command of the game as the third quarter got underway. Troup took a commanding 47-9 lead on runs of five and 20 yards along with a 30 yard pick six.

The Elks broke back into the scoring column midway through the fourth quarter as Mays hooked up with Joseph Casal for 25 yards and six points. The extra point was good and made the score 47-16.

Troup tacked on a late touchdown on a 70-yard bomb to bring the game to a close with a final of 54-16.

The Elks will hit the road next week for a game against the Sabine Cardinals. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
