GRAPELAND – In an effort to raise funds for an upcoming mission trip to Costa Rica, Percilla Community Church is gearing up to host a Back 2 School Bash in the Grapeland City Park from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24.

“It’s basically our last little summer event for the community,” said event organizer Ruby Hernandez. “It’s an opportunity for everyone in the community just to come out and have a good time.”

Hernandez explained that tickets for food and games will be sold at the entrance.

“It’s gonna be kind of like carnival-style, where they buy as many tickets as they want and use tickets to play games and buy food,” she said. “Hot dogs will be two tickets. We’re also going to do plates where they can get hot dogs, chips and a drink for five tickets. And then, we’re gonna have nachos – we’ll probably have those for about two tickets as well.”

The carnival-style games set up at the event, Hernandez said, will likely cost players one ticket at each station.

The event will also feature water slides, Hernandez said, so attendees are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing and bring towels.

Hernandez said the trip to Costa Rica will take place in December. The group will be partnering with a ministry called Til He Returns.

“We will be partnering up with an orphanage there, which is actually a children’s home; the lady has legally adopted about 40 kids,” Hernandez shared. “We’ll also be working with a prison ministry there, and we’ll be working with church ministry and street evangelism.”

The trip will be the church’s first journey out of the country, Hernandez said.

“We are stoked and super excited,” she said. “I’ve got about five youth and seven adults going on the trip.”
