Charles Edward “Chuck” Smith

Charles Edward “Chuck” Smith, 83, passed away on June 12, 2018, in the Nix Medical Center, San Antonio.  Chuck was born February 16, 1935 in Houston, to parents George Edward Smith and Dolorice Laura Norton Smith. He graduated from Aldine High School in 1952 and served 12 years in the Texas National Guard and Army Reserve. Chuck retired as a captain from the Houston Police Department after 22 years of service. He moved to Crockett and became an active member and past master of the Lothrop Masonic Lodge #21. Chuck loved music and playing the steel guitar. Also for 18 years, Chuck and Dot traveled the country in their RV.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dot Smith of Ingram; daughter, Laurie Solomon and husband, Mark of Lovelady; son, Bobby Smith and wife, Paige of Huntsville; grandchildren, Amanda Saldana and husband, Roger, Stephanie Solomon, Stephen Solomon, Aaron Smith and wife, Brittney, Ethan Smith and wife, Selena, Caleb Smith and Tori Bumpas, Zachary Alexander, Kendall Alexander; great-grandchildren, Max Smith, Caroline Smith, Charlee Smith, Ryker Smith, Wyatt Saldena; sisters-in-law, Ruth Kershner, Dolly Chamberlain, Barbara Chamberlain, Nella Smith; numerous nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by father, George E. Smith; mother, Dolorice L. (Toby) Smith; brother, Thomas S. Smith; sister, Barbara J. Harris.

Funeral services were held for Charles Edward “Chuck” Smith at 10 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2018 at the Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel. Family received friends for visitation Thursday, June 14 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 15829, Arlington, VA. 22215, American Kidney Fund or to the charity of your choice.
