Wanda (Leonard) Herrera
Wera Wanda (Leonard) Adair Herrera, 95, of Madisonville, TX; passed away on Thursday; May 24, 2018 in Madisonville, TX. Funeral services were scheduled for 11 a.m. on Thursday; May 31, 2018 at Day Funeral Home Chapel in Madisonville, TX with Bro. Dennis Ivy officiating. A visitation was held from 5PM-8PM on Wednesday, May 23 also at Day Funeral Home Chapel. The burial followed at Antioch Cemetery in Weldon, TX.
Wanda was born on September 8, 1922 in Weldon, TX to John and Emma Mae (James) Leonard. She married Henry Grady Adair of Porter Springs, TX and eventually moved to Baytown, TX where he was employed by Humble Oil Company. Wanda was soon the mother of three daughters whom she adored. She loved serving the Lord and was a faithful member of the church. She enjoyed working outside the home and owned several small businesses including a restaurant and a collision repair shop. She lived in Baytown until 1972 and then moved to her second home in Midway, TX.
Not content with retirement, she opened a small café in Midway and also worked as the supervisor of The Cattlemen’s Restaurant as well as the coffee shop in our local hospital. When her second husband, Frank Herrera was diagnosed with kidney disease, they moved to Madisonville to be closer to the dialysis unit. At this time, she took another position with The Texas Department of Health and Human Services where she worked another twenty-three years before finally retiring at the age of 88. You or your family members may remember her calling reminding you to “get your flu shots!”
She loved people and was happiest whenever she was serving others. She enjoyed cooking for her family and her holiday dressing and pies were her signature dishes. She loved gardening in her spare time and had a unique bed of ivies that she grew from cuttings.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, H.G. Adair; her second husband, Frank Herrera; her daughter, Pamela K. Adair; and her siblings, John L. Leonard, Sam Leonard, Will Leonard, Tom Leonard, Artie Mae (Leonard) Williams, and Rosie Leonard. She is survived by her two daughters, Wanda Siems (Chuck) of Crockett, TX and Maurita Turner (Cleveland) of Midway, TX; her three granddaughters, Lewanda Sullivan (Mike) of Houston, TX, Tiffany Turner of College Station, TX, and Katy Fuchs (Charlie) of Franklin, TX; and her two great grandsons, Levi Fuchs and Grayson Fuchs of Franklin, TX.
Serving as pallbearers are: Reed Reynolds, Jim Fraley, Charlie Fuchs, Chris Siems, Mike Sullivan, Levi Fuchs, Grayson Fuchs, and Brandon Alonzo.
