Kenneth Darrell Baker

Funeral services for Kenneth Darrell Baker, 82, of Lufkin were held Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 10 a.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jimmy Hedges and Pastor Scott Reed officiating. Graveside services under the auspices of the Lufkin Masonic Lodge #669 A.F. & A.M. will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.

Mr. Baker was born September 6, 1935 in Grapeland, Texas, the son of the late Warren Columbus Baker and Imogene (Gillespie) Baker. He passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2018 in a local hospital.

Mr. Baker graduated from Grapeland High School in 1953. He served in the United States Army from 1953 – 1956. He was stationed in Camp Hanford, Washington in the Guided Missile Division. Mr. Baker retired after 38 years from the United States Postal Service, serving most of those years as a letter carrier. Upon his retirement he became a member of National Active and Retired Federal Employees Chapter 713 in Lufkin, serving as President and Vice-President. He loved to golf, hunt, and fish. He was a member of the Pineywoods Fly Fishers Club, where he served as Secretary. He was also a member of the Lufkin Masonic Lodge #669 A.F. & A.M., where he served as Chaplain. Mr. Baker was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church for 59 years where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Director.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Gwen (Rials) Baker; son, Kenny Baker and wife Alesa of Lufkin; grandchildren, Matt Baker and wife Katie of Lufkin, Jennifer Neuenschwander and husband David of The Woodlands, Kelli Baker and fiance’ Travis Lawrence of Spring, Hope McLain and Tyler McLain, both of Nacogdoches; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Elizabeth, and Sylvie Baker of Lufkin, and Reese and Jake Neuenschwander of The Woodlands.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kristi McLain of Nacogdoches; and sister, Betty Jean Cowan of Denver, Colorado.

Pallbearers will be Matt Baker, David Neuenschwander, Tyler McLain, Randy McLain, John Harold Allen and David Baker.

The family welcomed friends and loved ones from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 11 evening at the funeral home.
