Sandies Head Back to State in Golf

Frauenberger, Cheatham Finish 1-2 at Regional

 CORSICANA – The Grapeland Sandies Boys’ Golf team is headed back to Austin to defend their 2017 UIL Class 2A State Golf Championship after they finished first in the Region III Golf Tournament held at the Corsicana Country Club.

Collectively, the Sandies shot a 588 over two days to win the team title. On Monday, April 23, the Sandies shot a 300 and on Tuesday, they went even lower and carded a 288. The Douglass Indians finished second in the team standings.

Individually, Rick Frauenberger walked off the course as the low-scoring individual after he recorded a spectacular round of 64. Right on his heels was teammate Brayden Cheatham who shot a 66. Frauenberger’s two day total was 132 while Cheatham’s total was 133. Douglass’ Trevor Roquemore finished third in the individual standings.

Other Sandie players who helped the team to victory were Case Boyd who finished with a 154 (78-76), Jason Bobbitt with a 169 (87-82) and Dylan Duhon with a 192 (98-94).

The Sandiettes will also be looking to head back to Austin to compete in the state tournament. They tee off on Wednesday, April 25. For complete details, check out the April 29 edition of The Messenger or check back online.
