James Roy “Jim” Anderson, MD

James Roy “Jim” Anderson, MD, passed away into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 6, 2018. He was born in Grapeland, Texas on September 11, 1936. After attending Sam Houston State Teachers College, he went on to the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and earned his Doctor of Medicine in 1964. He joined the Army and completed his Internship at William Beaumont Army Medical Center and Residency at Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio.

Jim served as an anesthesiologist in Vietnam. After the war, he returned to El Paso where he practiced medicine for over 25 years.

He adored his wife, Jan, and they were inseparable. As a father he modeled Christian values and a strong work ethic. He loved being “Papa” and teaching his grandchildren life lessons.

Jim loved airplanes and enjoyed flying as a private pilot. He flew a Piper Cherokee Six, and later a Beechcraft Bonanza. His other hobbies included reading, metal detecting, history, and target shooting. He often spent weekends at the gun range participating in shooting competitions or with his grandchildren teaching gun safety and target shooting.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jan Anderson, son James Steven (Cindy), daughter Rebecca Riall Jowers (Raymond), son Gregory Mark (Darla). He had 10 grandchildren: Scott, Courtney, Stuart and Ashley Anderson; Amy Jowers Waller, Katherine Jowers Gill, Amanda and Jessica Jowers; Julia and Mark Anderson.

A Memorial Service was held on April 14 at 11:30 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home West, 128 North Resler. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Heart Association.
