With so many so-called American companies bringing in their products from China and other countries, it’s refreshing to find those that are committed to our fair land. David MacNeil is the founder and CEO of MacNeil Automotive. His company makes a wide array of products for cars and trucks.
A best seller is their Weather Tech floor mats. MacNeil said when he started his business many of his best sellers were imported from overseas. No more! Now everything in their catalog is made in America.
MacNeil summed it up this way: “When I walk into my local hardware store, I find 75 percent of the products are made 7,000 miles away. Recognizable American brands have been forced by shortsighted management and buyers at large national chains to build factories overseas- – just to save a lousy 50 cents on a tape measure.”
His philosophy is direct. “If my neighbor doesn’t have a job, sooner or later my job will also disappear.”
The folks raising buffalo must have some friends in high places of our government. Buffalo ranchers are protected against livestock deaths in certain conditions. These include bad weather, wildfires and eligible disease and predator attacks. Lose a young buffalo calf and the government pays $1,223 if less than 400 pounds. Yearling rates are $1,975 a head and mature cows are $1,790 for an eligible loss. Maybe we should be in the buffalo business!
Mike Jolley, is the high sheriff in Harris County, Georgia. He’s an officer lawbreakers don’t want to tangle with. Three years ago at Christmas time, he posted a sign that read “WARNING: Harris County is politically incorrect. We say MERRY CHRISTMAS, GOD bless America and in GOD we trust. We salute our troops and our flag. If this offends you…LEAVE!”
His latest sign along the highway, paid for at his expense, is also self-explanatory. “Our citizens have concealed weapons. If you kill someone, we might kill you back. We have ONE jail and 356 cemeteries. Enjoy your stay! Sheriff Mike Jolley.” That makes sense!
