Genesis 32 – “Jacob Wrestles with God”

Jacob left his Uncle Laban’s home and headed for Canaan.  He knew he would meet his brother Esau, and that Esau wished to kill him.  On the journey he put all of his possessions in front of the caravan at Jabbak and he remained there alone.

That night a man wrestled with him (probably the “Angel of the Lord”).  Jacob realized who it was and would not let Him go until He blessed him! The Lord blessed him and changed his name to Israel, “one who wrestles and prevails.” The Lord also caused Jacob’s hip to be dislocated.  However, this situation is all good; it ends well!
