EAST TEXAS – The Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) released its list of All-State players on Tuesday, April 3 and saw three Slocum Lady Mustangs along with one Cayuga Lady Wildcat included.

Jessi Ives

Lady Mustangs Taylor Clark, Jessi Ives and Gina Lively were selected for the prestigious honor as they have helped lead their Slocum teammates to back-to-back Class 1A state tournament appearances. Ives is the lone senior of the trio which means Clark and Lively – both juniors – will be back to torment defenders for one more year.

Cayuga Lady Wildcat Nicole Lackey – a senior – was selected for All-State honors by the TGCA at the Class 2A level.

According to the press release announcing the All-State list, “The Texas Girls Coaches Association selects All-State teams in basketball for conferences 1A-6A.  Athletes are nominated by member coaches and selected by the TGCA Basketball All-State Committee at their meeting during the UIL State Basketball Tournament. The head varsity coach of an athlete must be a member of TGCA in good standing to nominate for honors or for athletes to receive honors. Athletes may be selected from any grade level 9-12.  Up to 40 athletes may be selected per conference.”

Of note, however, LaPoynor Lady Flyer Te’Aire Hambrick was overlooked by the TGCA Class 2A selection committee. Hambrick has been selected as First Team All-State by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches for four consecutive years.
