LATEXO – The Grapeland Sandies traveled to Latexo on Tuesday afternoon for their district opener in District 21-AA.

Kase Miller was on the bump for Latexo while Austin Driskell got the nod for the Sandies. Miller was less than sharp as he gave up five runs in the first inning on four walks, a double and a single.

With a 5-0 lead, Driskell gave back a run on a dropped third strike that allowed Curt Baker to trot home  from third and make the score 5-1 after the first inning of play.

The Sandies were back at it again in the second as they used a single and a double to add another run to their total. Miller was pulled after the run and Matthew Wheeler was brought in for a relief appearance.

After Wheeler recorded two quick outs, he gave up a base knock to put the Sandies up by a score of 7-1 but he held Grapeland right there as he got the next batter to ground out.

The Tigers cut into the Sandies’ lead once again in the second inning as Eli Filer came around to score on a Justin Bobbitt liner through the middle of the infield.

After the Tigers held Grapeland scoreless in the third, the Sandies erupted for three runs in the fourth to put the game out of reach as they held on to win by a final score of 12-7.
