James Larue Shepherd

James Larue Shepherd, son of Aggie Campbell and George Larue Shepherd was born in Grapeland, Texas on November 11, 1948.

James was born in Grapeland, Texas and moved to Houston, Texas in 1955. He attended grade school and graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School, Houston, Texas in 1968.

James married Helen Johnson and to this union they were blessed with 2 sons.

After graduation, he worked 25 years for Hughes Tools which later became Baker-Hughes Tools. He also worked at Auto Nation until he retired in 2011.

James loved to cook and talk about politics. He had a keen knowledge of current events, and a photographic memory for dates. James remembered dates for everything!

He was preceded in death by parents Aggie and George Larue Shepherd; five brothers, Ben Arthur Shepherd, Ballard Murphy, Albert D. Murphy, Willie B. Murphy, and J. T. Shepherd; three sisters, Mae Rene Tarpley, Yvonne Jones and Emma Stinson.

James is survived by sons Gregory Shepherd and Jason (Victoria) Shepherd; two brothers John (Francis) Shepherd of Houston, Texas and J.C. Shepherd of Lubbock, Texas; three sisters Savannah Shepherd (devoted and dedicated) and Velma Wilmore of Houston, Texas and Erma (Harold) Stell of Grapeland, Texas; a very special niece Sonia Stell aka Legs; two grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services were held Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Greater New Hope Baptist Church, Grapeland, TX.  Interment – Campbell Family Cemetery, Grapeland, TX

Arrangements were under the direction of Walker & Walker Funeral Home.
