ELKHART – The Lovelady Lady Lions opened their postseason against the Kerens Lady Bobcats on Tuesday, Feb. 13 in Elkhart.

Lovelady was fresh off of a loss to Centerville in a game to determine the second / third seed. The Lady Lions shook off the Saturday defeat, however, and took down a strong Lady Bobcats squad by a final score of 56-41.

Initially, it looked as if Kerens was going to knock Lovelady out of the playoffs in the first round. The Lady Lions had other ideas, however.

After trailing at the end of one by a score of 12-9, Lovelady managed to tie the game at 19 midway through the second quarter.

Once the score was tied, Lovelady didn’t ease up one iota and went on a 10-0 lead to close out the first half with a 29-19 lead.

Following the intermission, the Lady Bobcats tried to cut into the score differential but Coach Jeff Rollo’s Lovelady squad was having none of it and closed out the third quarter ahead by a count of 40-29.

With eight minutes remaining in the contest, the Lady Lions began to milk the clock but still managed to take a 20 point lead with under five minutes to play. From there, Lovelady began to stall as they held on for the 56-41 win.

Skye Watts and Hannah Burleson led the Lady Lions with 16 points each.

Next up for the Lady Lions will be the Hubbard Lady Jaguars in the Area Round of the playoffs. The game is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 16 at the Leon High School Gymnasium. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
